      <link>https://ir.lib.ncu.edu.tw/handle/987654321/109883</link>
;This thesis focuses on the Chunqiu Jingquan by Zhao Pengfei， a Chunqiu scholar of the Southern Song dynasty， and examines the central concerns， interpretive methodology， and substantive interpretations of his Chunqiu scholarship， thereby elucidating its distinctive features within the broader context of Chunqiu studies during the Song dynasty.
First， this thesis argues that Zhao Pengfei’s approach to the Chunqiu arose from his attempt to address the interpretive difficulties resulting from the longstanding dominance of the Three Commentaries. Zhao neither rejected the Three Commentaries altogether nor followed their transmitted interpretations uncritically. Instead， he advocated approaching them with an “impartial mind” (gongxin). Through his critical examination of the interpretations found in the Zuozhuan， the　Gongyang Zhuan， and the Guliang Zhuan， Zhao sought to challenge their interpretive authority and， in turn， establish an exegetical approach centered on the text of the Chunqiu itself.
Second， this thesis demonstrates that Zhao regarded the Chunqiu as a classic compiled by Confucius through his revision of the historical records of the state of Lu in order to embody his aspiration for the “restoration of the Zhou royal house.” Its underlying meanings and judgments were primarily conveyed through the textual formulations of the classic. Zhao explained the principles underlying the compilation of the Chunqiu through the notion of “examining the circumstances of an event to discern the intentions involved， and formulating the text accordingly” (yi shi kao qing er li wen)， and regarded textual formulation as the key to understanding the judgments of praise and blame made by Confucius. Accordingly， his interpretive method begins with close attention to the textual formulations of the Chunqiu， combining the reconstruction of historical events with an inquiry into the principles and circumstances underlying them in order to uncover Confucius’s intended meanings.
Finally， this thesis examines how Zhao constructed a coherent system of moral and political principles through the judgments of praise and blame embodied in the Chunqiu. Zhao maintained that the Chunqiu， primarily through its accounts of disruptions to the Five Human Relationships， sought to reconstruct a political and ethical order centered on the principle of “honoring those who are honorable” (zunzun). At the same time， through its treatment of the proper relationship between ruler and minister， the distinction between the Chinese cultural realm and the non-Chinese peoples， and the distinction between true kingship and hegemony， Zhao articulated his understanding of the proper order of All-under-Heaven.
Overall， Zhao Pengfei’s Chunqiu scholarship exhibits both methodological self-consciousness and a sustained concern with moral and political principles. It not only demonstrates an exegetical endeavor to move beyond the authority of the Three Commentaries， but also reveals Zhao’s classical ideal of reconstructing an order based on the Kingly Way through the Chunqiu.

A Study of Liu E and His Tieyun shicun</title>
      <link>https://ir.lib.ncu.edu.tw/handle/987654321/109878</link>
A Study of Liu E and His Tieyun shicun abstract:
;Liu E (1857–1909) was a prominent late-Qing entrepreneur， hydraulic engineer， and novelist， best known for his novel The Travels of Lao Can (Laocan youji). His poetry collection， Tieyun shicun， however， has rarely received systematic scholarly attention. Taking Tieyun shicun as its core text—including the poems quoted within The Travels of Lao Can that are collected therein—and drawing on Liu E′s diaries， letters， and related historical materials， this thesis examines how the intellectual origins， practical undertakings， and later-life vicissitudes of Liu E were concretely reflected in and crystallized through his poetic writing.
The thesis is organized around three stages of Liu E′s life. In his youth， it examines how， under the shadow of childhood traumas caused by natural disasters and warfare， Liu E was shaped by the family learning inherited from his father Liu Chengzhong， and later， upon becoming a disciple of the Taigu School， was steeped in its poetics of &amp;quot;establishing nature to attain feeling&amp;quot; (lixing daqing) as well as its sagely ideal of &amp;quot;teaching&amp;quot; and &amp;quot;nurturing&amp;quot; (jiao and yang)—through which he gradually formed his aspiration to &amp;quot;nurture the world&amp;quot; (yang tianxia) as his personal mission. In his middle years， it examines his practical undertakings in river conservancy， railway construction， and mining enterprises， analyzing how his poetry and the poems embedded in The Travels of Lao Can complemented one another during this period， jointly giving expression to his experiences and reflections. In his later years， through Dongyou cao (a collection of poems from his two journeys to Japan)， as well as poems on antiquarian collecting， communion with kindred spirits (zhiyin)， and reflections on his own circumstances， the thesis traces the shifting sentiments Liu E experienced while traveling to Japan under political pressure to manage salt trade affairs， together with the successive setbacks—including repeated career failures and his exile to Xinjiang—that shaped his poetic writing， revealing a trajectory that moved from worldly engagement toward inward introspection.
Through a systematic examination of the creative development and intellectual content of Tieyun shicun， this thesis aims to establish it as a text of independent literary value， capable of offering profound insight into Liu E′s life course， thereby addressing a gap in existing scholarship that has long privileged The Travels of Lao Can while paying insufficient attention to his poetry. In addition， this thesis cross-references his poems with the poems quoted in his novel， as well as with his diaries and letters， in an effort to deepen the understanding of the distinctive qualities of his poetic writing.

Food and Sexual Desire in Journey to the West: Bodily and Spiritual Reconstruction</title>
      <link>https://ir.lib.ncu.edu.tw/handle/987654321/109875</link>
Food and Sexual Desire in Journey to the West: Bodily and Spiritual Reconstruction abstract: 《西遊記》歷來多從宗教、神魔、思想或人物形象等角度加以詮釋，然食色書寫與身體修煉之間的內在關聯仍有進一步探討空間。 ;Journey to the West has traditionally been interpreted from the perspectives of religion， mythology， philosophy， and characterization. However， the intrinsic relationship between representations of food and desire and the cultivation of the body remains an area that merits further investigation. Taking Journey to the West as its primary subject， this study employs close textual analysis in conjunction with semiotics， body studies， and Michel Foucault′s theory of power to examine the interactions among food， sexuality， the body， spiritual cultivation， and institutional order.
The dissertation explores dietary culture along the pilgrimage， banquet narratives， Tang Monk′s flesh， the episode of children′s hearts used as medicine in the Kingdom of Biqiu， Zhu Bajie′s sensual desire， the reconstruction of the pilgrims′ bodies， and the systems of divine surveillance and institutionalized ordeals. It argues that food and sexuality in Journey to the West are not merely expressions of sensual desire but constitute essential mechanisms for spiritual cultivation， moral testing， bodily transformation， and the construction of order. This study concludes that the journey to the Western Heaven is not only an external pilgrimage but also an internal process of bodily reconstruction and the governance of desire， thereby offering a renewed interpretation of the novel′s cultural significance and intellectual value.
