Drawing upon perspectives from feminist geography, feminist film theory, and other approaches, while also examining Chang′s personal recollections in her collections of essays and her supplementary remarks on her own works, this study compares how different directors, shaped by their respective historical contexts, creative philosophies, and the distinctive characteristics of cinematic media, have reinterpreted the female consciousness, gender power relations, and spatial dynamics in Chang′s works. Through this, the study aims to explore the intertextuality between the novels and their film adaptations.
