;Flight software is central to satellite operation and must coordinate subsystems, communication links, data storage, and ground operations. Developers new to flight software often face incomplete satellite hardware and complex system architectures, which can delay integration and verification. This study designs and implements a CubeSat flight software system based on F Prime, an open-source framework developed by NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and uses the CubeSat Space Protocol (CSP) for communication between the onboard computer and other subsystems. The system is developed according to mission-specific requirements, with OpenSpec and OpenAI Codex used to maintain traceability among requirements, design, implementation, and verification records.
The software is first simulated on macOS and then deployed to Raspberry Pi platforms to establish a cross-device, multi-link test environment comprising the onboard computer, subsystem simulators, and a ground operations interface. Communication, system monitoring, data storage, and related functions are verified against the defined requirements. The resulting system enables software integration and verification before the complete satellite hardware becomes available, reducing schedule risks associated with late-stage integration. It also offers developers who have limited hardware resources or flight software experience a low-cost approach to building a CubeSat flight software prototype supported by a structured engineering process and documented verification evidence.
