;Composite photocatalysts combining metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with semiconductor materials have attracted considerable attention for their potential to enhance photocatalytic performance via synergistic effects. Prior research has successfully demonstrated the excellent performance of photocatalysts such as UiO-66/TiO₂ (U/T) and UiO-66-NH₂/TiO₂ (UN/T). This study focuses on the composite of inverse opal TiO₂ (IOT) with UiO-66 and UiO-66-NH₂. The well-ordered structure of IOT generates slow light effect, which is expected to enhance light harvesting and utilization, leading to improved photocatalytic performance. UiO-66/IOT (U/IOT) and UiO-66-NH₂/IOT (UN/IOT) composites were synthesized via an in situ method. Characterization was conducted using FTIR and XRD to investigate chemical bonding and crystallinity, respectively, while N₂ adsorption-desorption isotherms were utilized to determine the surface area and pore size distribution. Photocatalytic performance was evaluated through methylene blue (MB) photodegradation under visible light. Results showed that U/IOT exhibited outstanding photocatalytic activity, significantly outperforming U/T. In contrast, UN/IOT showed a rapid initial removal of MB, indicating that adsorption played a more dominant role in the process. To clarify mechanisms, band structures were constructed via UPS and UV-vis DRS, while EPR detected •O₂⁻ and •OH radicals. Based on these comprehensive results, TypeⅠheterojunctions mechanisms are proposed for U/T and U/IOT, whereas TypeⅡ mechanisms are proposed for UN/T and UN/IOT. The findings suggest the IOT structure provides a light harvesting advantage over traditional TiO₂. However, both heterojunctions decrease redox ability while separating photogenerated charge carriers. These results highlight the importance of balancing charge separation with redox potential, offering new insights for the future design of UiO-66/IOT-based photocatalysts.
