;With the increasing global energy demand and extensive use of fossil fuels, the greenhouse effect and climate change caused by carbon dioxide emissions have received growing attention. Converting carbon dioxide into high-value-added chemicals or fuels is regarded as an important strategy with both carbon reduction benefits and resource utilization potential. Among various CO2 conversion routes, CO2 hydrogenation to methanol can not only reduce carbon dioxide emissions but also provide a liquid fuel, hydrogen carrier, and chemical feedstock.
High-entropy alloys have shown catalytic potential distinct from conventional monometallic or bimetallic catalysts owing to their multicomponent composition, high configurational entropy, lattice distortion, and diverse active sites on the surface. The coexistence of multiple metal elements can provide reaction sites with different adsorption and activation abilities and may regulate the adsorption of reaction intermediates and surface reaction pathways through interactions among different elements. In this study, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn were selected as the main metal components, with the aim of developing high-entropy alloy catalysts with catalytic potential through multimetallic composition design.
In this study, γ- Al2O3 was used as the support, and FeCoNiCu and FeCoNiCuZn-based high-entropy oxides were prepared by the impregnation method, followed by hydrogen reduction. Different metal molar ratios were designed, including FeCoNiCu, FeCoNiCuZn, FeCoNiCu1.25Zn0.75, and FeCoNiCu1.5Zn0.5, to investigate the effects of metal composition and reduction conditions on the properties of the catalysts. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, TPR, CO2-TPD, NH3-TPD, nitrogen adsorption–desorption analysis, ICP, and HR-TEM to evaluate their crystal structure, reduction behavior, pore properties, elemental composition, and microstructure.
The main objective of this study is to establish FeCoNiCu and FeCoNiCuZn high-entropy alloy catalysts and to investigate the effects of different metal compositions and reduction conditions on their structures and physicochemical properties. Through the analysis of catalyst composition and structural characteristics, this study provides a basis for future application in CO2 hydrogenation to methanol and offers a reference for the design and optimization of high-entropy alloy catalysts in CO2 conversion reactions.
