;Driven by the global energy transition and net-zero carbon emission goals, solar power has become a key source of renewable energy. As the number of solar photovoltaic (PV) sites in Taiwan continues to grow, improving generation performance and operational efficiency has become an important issue. Compared with single-site studies, multi-site empirical analysis allows a more comprehensive evaluation of regional and site-condition effects on performance.
This study examined multiple solar PV sites in Northern, Central, and Southern Taiwan using operational data from 2022 to 2024. The collected data included installed capacity, service life, site type, module orientation, tilt angle, annual generation, and Performance Ratio (PR). Specific yield was used as the main performance indicator. Descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, post hoc tests, and correlation analysis were applied.
The results showed significant regional differences, with Southern Taiwan achieving better performance than Central and Northern Taiwan. Site type, module orientation, and tilt angle also had significant effects on generation performance. Special ground-mounted sites, south-facing systems, and low tilt angles (0–10°) performed best. In addition, service life showed a significant negative correlation with performance, indicating that older systems tended to generate less efficiently.
Overall, high-performing solar PV sites were generally characterized by Southern location, special ground-mounted design, south-facing orientation, low tilt angle, and newer equipment age. The findings can serve as practical references for site planning, system design, and operation management.
