;As green building rating systems increasingly serve as tools linking sustainability performance with capital markets, whether Taiwan’s building materials for interior design and construction can respond to international institutional requirements has become a question worthy of examination. Existing research has mostly focused on material performance or green building material certification, with limited attention to systematically examining gaps between technological supply and international green building requirements from the perspective of patent text. This study analyzes Taiwan’s patents related to building materials for interior design and construction, using LEED v5 for Interior Design and Construction (LEED ID+C v5) as an international institutional benchmark. Through patent analysis, text mining, and gap analysis, this study examines the relationship and potential gaps between Taiwan’s technological supply and international institutional requirements. Patent data were sourced from domestic granted patents announced by the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office from 2010 to 2025. Based on regulatory scope, International Patent Classification (IPC) subclasses, and LEED clause keywords, patent datasets were established for each LEED technology group, yielding 11,062 patent records and 8,098 non-duplicate patents after cross-group duplicate removal. Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) topic modeling was applied to identify technology topics, and a gap analysis matrix was constructed between the technology topics and LEED clauses. The results show that Taiwan’s patents related to building materials for interior design and construction have a stable R&D base, although carbon-related technology remains limited, accounting for only 0.9% of the six LEED technology groups. Among the 30 identified core technology topics, 27 show directional alignment with LEED requirements. However, none of the topics achieved full correspondence in the gap analysis matrix, and more than half of the interpretable units were classified as disclosure-gap correspondence. This indicates that the main gap between Taiwan’s building-material technologies and LEED requirements is not the absence of relevant technologies, but whether the patent disclosure presents the quantifiable indicators, verification methods, and product information disclosure frameworks required by LEED. Recent patents have also shown emerging vocabulary such as “formaldehyde capture” and “carbon-negative,” although these signals remain preliminary. This study recommends that interior design and construction practitioners shift material selection from a function-oriented to an evidence-oriented approach, and that building-material suppliers incorporate quantifiable indicators, verification documentation, and product information disclosure more explicitly into product technical data, thereby strengthening the alignment between Taiwan’s building-material technologies and international green building requirements.
