本文係運用上海市檔案館上海商業儲蓄銀行及中國旅行社史料之檔案、內部刊物，以及眾多史家撰述有關中國旅行社及其創辦人陳光甫先生的相關著作，如專書、書摘、論文、期刊報導…等，加以綜合研究，去蕪存菁，說明為何研究中國旅行社的動機，研究抱持的目的為何，再加以詳細闡述。首先回顧從明清到清末，中國的旅遊概況，包括旅遊的種類、目的，以及支撐旅遊所需的住宿問題。其次就針對本論文主題中國旅行社在其近百年經營對民國以來旅遊史，在社會所產生之影響，及在時代扮演之角色與地位，按時序先後，及民國現代史發展之階段，提出細節研究，尤其是在不同階段突出之作為，足為領先群倫之表率及深遠影響者。 本文各章節最後均會以「此階段對社會生活面之影響」作為小結，最後結論是將各章節小段結論加以整合，提綱契領再做重點申論。;This study utilizes archival materials and internal publications from the Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank and China Travel Service (CTS)， currently housed in the Shanghai Municipal Archives. Supplemented by extensive scholarly literature on CTS and its founder， Mr. K.P. Chen—including monographs， book reviews， thesis， and periodical reports—this research aims to synthesize these primary and secondary sources to elucidate the motivations and objectives behind investigating CTS. The thesis begins by reviewing the general landscape of Chinese tourism from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the late Qing period， categorizing types of travel， purposes， and the supporting infrastructure， specifically accommodation issues. Subsequently， the research focuses on the central theme: the historical development of China Travel Service over its nearly century-long operation. It analyzes the societal impact， roles， and status of CTS throughout different stages of modern Chinese history. By employing a chronological framework， this study provides a detailed examination of the organization′s pioneering initiatives across various eras， highlighting its leading position and enduring influence in the industry. Each chapter concludes with a section titled "Societal Impact during this Stage，" while the final conclusion integrates these findings to provide a comprehensive theoretical synthesis of the research.
