Abstract The badlands of southwestern Taiwan are located within an active fold-and-thrust belt and are developed predominantly in the highly erodible Gutingkeng Mudstone. In the absence of clearly identifiable fluvial markers of river incision in the Gutingkeng mudstone badlands, geomorphic indices derived from small drainage basins are used to assess spatial variations in landscape response across contrasting tectonic settings. This study integrates high-resolution (1.8 cm to 10 cm) UAV-derived Digital Surface Models (DSMs) and 1 m LiDAR Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) with geodetic datasets derived from leveling, traverse, and GNSS measurements to examine the relationship between uplift and basin-scale morphometry. Hypsometric integral (HI), hypsometric curve shape, and basin relief (BR) were calculated for delineated sub-basins using MATLAB TopoToolbox v2.4 and ArcGIS. The Zhongliao Site, (24 basins; 20,650 m² total analyzed basin area), located between the Chegualin and Chishan Faults, lies within a zone of rapid uplift where vertical velocities range from 25.3 to 93.6 mm/year and the representative mean uplift rate is 60 mm/year. Basins at this site exhibit relatively high BR values and predominantly convex to S-shaped hypsometric curves. Morphometric results derived from UAV (mean HI = 0.48 ± 0.05; mean BR = 38.33 ± 11.47 m) and LiDAR datasets (mean HI = 0.47 ± 0.05; mean BR = 38.38 ± 11.08 m) show strong agreement, indicating consistency of extracted geomorphic metrics across datasets. Moonworld Park (12 basins; 2,739 m² total analyzed basin area) is located on the western limb of the Hsiaokunshui Anticline and is structurally associated with the Gutingkeng Fault. The site has a mean uplift rate of 12 mm/year and exhibits S-shaped hypsometric curves with moderate morphometric values (mean HI = 0.50 ± 0.03; mean BR = 26.62 ± 8.49 m). In contrast, the Shan-Nan Temple Site, (27 basins; 5,062 m² total analyzed basin area), located in the footwall of the Lungchuan Fault within the Lungchuan Anticline deformation domain, records a mean uplift rate of 22 mm/year and exhibits similar mean HI (0.48 ± 0.08) but lower mean BR (22.99 ± 5.85 m) and greater variability in hypsometric curve shape. Overall, the results demonstrate that while HI values are broadly similar across sites, significant differences in BR and curve morphology indicate that geomorphic indices do not scale linearly with decadal uplift magnitude. Furthermore, the strong correspondence between UAV- and LiDAR-derived geomorphic indices (HI, BR, and HC) indicates that 1 m LiDAR DEMs can reproduce basin-scale morphometric results in this study, despite their lower spatial resolution, supporting their use for regional-scale morphometric analysis.
