For the simulation of a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process generating high-purity oxygen product, by treating the feed air as binary mixture (taking oxygen and argon as one component and nitrogen as the other), the simulation results are very close to the experimental data of Matz and Knaebel (1988) and the results of a ternary-component simulation. But if only the feed mole fraction of oxygen is considered and the rest of air is taken as nitrogen, the simulation will overestimate the concentration profile of oxygen and underestimate the pressure profile.
