Abstract:	Electronic and steric effects in the solvolysis of alpha-substituted 2-aryl-2-chloropropanes provide further kinetic evidence for nucleophilic solvent intervention; the advantage of using the Y(BnCl) scale for correlation analysis with the Grunwald-Winstein equation is discussed.
