In this thesis, a new web-based electricity monitoring network has been studied, configured and constructed to prove the concept of that using internet and XML to exchange monitoring data can reduce the installation and maintenance costs for the campus-wide, or even national-wide power consumption monitoring networks. To test the new monitoring network, 40 digital power meters, each has a special designed XML data gateway module, were installed in different buildings around the main campus of the National Central University, ChungLi City, Taiwan. Monitored data were sent back to a central data server every minute, and a custom designed programmed was used to verify and analyze the data. A web-site was also constructed to display the result. The system has successfully operated for more than one year. In comparison with other existing electricity monitoring system, the new internet based system costs less and is easier to install. To prevent data disaster that any real-time monitoring system may eventually encountered, we tried to develop simple mathematic models that can describe the data with only little numbers of parameters. Although its not a big success, we still find that most of power monitoring data can be described with seven basic patterns, such as V or W form.
