女性主義研究的重要核心議題──女性特質──其內在形構如何包含並處理性與階級的因素，女性特質的形構又如何透過情感結構來中介並再生產性與階級，這些都是我的計畫將要處理的重要議題。我將對照重讀瓊瑤、李昂之類都會女性小說與女性主義理論和相關的法律論述，並聚焦於其中對於「珍藏的痛苦」(cherished pain)(Kucich 2006: 4) 的論述。我認為某些小說所再現的痛苦，其實中介了階級與性別之間的社會過程與象徵交換，這個像徵交換使得中產階級個人化的女性特質得以浮現，其文化優勢則有賴弔詭地既擁抱也否認在痛苦、羞辱、屈從中的愉悅。世紀交替之際的西方小說中已經呈現自我犧牲的痛苦如何中介構成了政治想像中的階級位置，也展現了女性主義更與「被虐」之間的複雜關係。事實上，被虐想像具體的中介了殖民主義作家在國族、帝國、女性主義之間的思考。透過閱讀本地這些影響深遠的小說創作，我將分析被虐想像如何串起階級、性別、國族、階級之間的串連，這其中的關鍵為何？排斥了什麼？我們可以如何理解族群／種族與性／性別元素在階級願景中的意義？性別與珍藏的痛苦之間是如何中介了階級的定位？這些都是這個計畫想要處理的。 My proposed project is to reread urban women』s fiction alongside feminist theoretical and legal writings with a focus on the representation of 『cherished pain』(Kucich 2006: 4) or valorized suffering. My working thesis is how such fictional representation of pain and suffering mediates a social process and symbolic exchange between status/class and gender. This symbolic exchange facilitates the emergence of a middle-class individualized feminine whose cultural hegemony depends upon the paradox of at once embracing and denying pleasure in pain, humiliation, submission. I hope to examine how the representation of status and class-coded suffering in seventies and eighties Taiwan urban women』s and feminist writings become sites for valuation of particular kinds of gendered over and against sexualized pain. 研究期間：9611 ~ 9710
