This research proposal is of an one-year period. It deals with proposing an anisotropic frictional model that is capable of governing non-uniform frictional stress distributed on the contact interface between the tool and upset forging of ring. The model proposed in this project will be employed in finite element analyses in order to investigate the effect of anisotropic frictional stress on the deformation behavior of the upset forging of ring. First of all, the anisotropic frictional model will be mathematically proposed in the form of polynomials, where the material parameter for aluminum alloy A6061 can be determined using the method of curve fitting to the experimental data previously obtained by the applicant from the test of upset forging of ring. Then, the model will be employed in a finite element software DEFORM 3D to further analyze the problem of upset forging of ring. Finally, it is expected that a rational condition consisting of the working parameters generally concerned in the problem be summarized, and therefore the product manufactured in this way can be secured in good quality under the consideration of economic cost. However, in order to verify the validity of the theoretical analysis, including the predictability of the proposed anisotropic model as well as the capability of DEFORM 3D in the problem of upset forging of ring, a series of experiments will be also conducted. Furthermore, the experiments will be carried out under the condition different from the ones having used to determine the material parameter. In addition to be used for the purpose of verification of the theoretical analysis, the experimental result can also be discussed for better understanding the effect of surface roughness on the anisotropic deformation behavior of upset forging of ring.
