    Abstract: 我們成功合成出由(Z)-3-hydroxy-2-(4-alkoxyphenyl) acrylaldehydes 所衍生而來之一系列錯合物分子 (Cu, Pd);同時,我們也利用NMR、DSC、POM 等儀器做化學與物理性質的鑑定。系列1d之雙金屬錯合物同時有層列狀液晶以及向列狀液晶,然而液晶相的形成會受到末端的碳鏈鏈長所影響。除此之外,改變系列1c配位基之imine使之具有層列狀液晶原,可惜的是在加入金屬 (Cu, Pd) 形成錯合物時,因為分子間多種氫鍵的關係,使之在較高溫度有嚴重熱裂解情況發生。最後,在系列二中,嘗試將1, 3,- diamino-2-hydroxypropane 作為連接基,並且與雙銅金屬配位。隨著中心核末端碳鏈支數的改變,液晶相的種類也隨之改變。當改變末端碳鏈支數為兩支 (系列3a) 與五支 (系列3b) 時,其錯合物分別有層列狀液晶與盤狀液晶產生。New ligands derived from (Z)-3-hydroxy-2-(4-alkoxyphenyl) acrylaldehydes and their corresponding neutral complexes with CuII and PdII are described. All compounds were characterized by 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscope. All compounds in 1d exhibited smectic A and nematic mesophases and the formation of mesophases was found to be sensitive to the number of carbon length of the side chains. The results indicated that copper (II) complexes with carbon length of n = 8 and 10 exhibited a nematic (N) mesophases, however, complexes with carbon length of n = 12, 14 and 16 showed a smectic A (SmA) mesophase. In addition, weak intramolecular or intermolecular hydrogen bondings in 1c led to smectic A mesophases and all of metal complexes (1c) decomposed at high temperature. Finally, we used 1, 3,-diamino-2-hydroxypropane as a linking group and coordinate with a pair of copper metals. These molecules all have total two (3a) or five alkoxy sidechains (3b) appended around the central core. The mesomorphic behaviors exhibited were found to be dependent on the sidechain density. All compounds in 3a exhibited smectic mesophases, however, compounds in 3b exhibited hexagonal columnar phases (Colh), which were characterized by optical textures and confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction.
