Abstract: | 研究期間:10311~10407;The crnstal structures and rock properties beneath the Central Range are keys for understanding Taiwan orogeny. However, before the TAIGER and ATSEE projects, there were not many seismic stations deployed in the Central Range, which limited the seismic imaging resolution of this area. These two projects deployed dense seismic arrays in the mountain ranges provide great opportunities to improve the resolution of the crustal structures. In this proposal, there are three goals to be achieved: 1) imaging the plate boundary between the Eurasian plate and the western end of the subducting Philippine Sea plate in northern Taiwan; 2) imaging the crustal structures and the 3D Moho geometry beneath the Central Range; 3) calculating theoretic seismic velocity versus depth profile from rock compositions to infer the rock properties beneath the Central Range. After these three goals accomplished, the results may imply an initial condition for other old mountain ranges in the world. |
