;The topic of this essay, “The Way to be at Peace,” focuses on the three big philosophic questions of a life: where are we from? Where will we go when we die? How to settle down our lives? The three questions make people uneasy and this essay aims to relieve people’s anxiety and explore the way to eliminate the anxiety. This topic is rarely discussed among the domestic academic field and the honorable fellows; it should be prospective and worthy to study. Although “The Way to be at Peace” is a Buddhist issue based on “Mahayanasraddhotpada,” the auther tries to exceed the limit of the traditional literal and logical interpretation of the Buddhism sutra books and make a philosophical interpretation from a more thorough perspective. The research approach taken by this essay mingles the “contrast-cross examination” created by the author himself with the method of “Intermediate Connection” created by Hsiao Chen-ban. The most important consequence of this essay is to achieve the two purposes of pacifying the mind: for the conventional reality, pursue the happiness of this life and the happiness of the subsequent lives (i.e., the ultimate Nirvana under the premium truth). With the integral theory of one heart, two doors, three greats, four beliefs, and five practices under the Mahayanasraddhotpada, all living creatures could have the faith, understanding, action, and verification to substantially examine the way to stay in peace and achieves the goal of being peaceful. On a separate note, the main purpose of this essay is not to substantiate the rationality and feasibility of the way to pacifying the mind provided by the Mahayanasraddhotpada; the way to be at peace focuses on practice and performance, not on the substantiation of the legitimacy of theories. From the study of the way of pacifying mind, this essay illustrates a new research model and proposes a different type of approach to explore the meaning and philosophy of Buddhism issues, inspires creativity and thinking, and formulates a new fashion. |
