;Eileen Chang, as one of the paramount figures in the realm of Chinese literature, is notably distinguished for her role as a novelist. Nevertheless, her prowess in the domain of prose is equally formidable, such that delving into her novels would invariably entail an exploration of her prose compositions. Through a juxtaposition of Eileen Chang′s three autobiographical novels—namely, The Fall of the Pagoda, The Book of Change, and Little Reunions—with her prose oeuvre, it becomes evident that her recurrent acts of revision extend beyond mere references in her prose. The trio of works she revisited were reshaped not solely due to the disruptive forces they unleashed; concurrently, an intricate interplay of textual elements connects her prose and fictional works. This study endeavors to dissect the intricate textual interplay wherein Eileen Chang′s prose and novels engage in an incessant dance of self-reflection. It seeks to unearth how Eileen Chang reiteratively reinterprets her personal history, and to detect the changes within her textual composition, emotional resonance, and stylistic execution.
