;This study investigated the effects of integrating issue-based board games with digital mind mapping instruction on fifth-grade elementary school students’ understanding of leopard cat conservation issues, multiple representation literacy, and argument construction abilities, as well as their learning experiences and course satisfaction. A qualitative-oriented approach supplemented by quantitative analysis was adopted. The study designed an issue-based board game course, Mystery of the Leopard Cat, to guide students in exploring the survival crises faced by leopard cats due to road development, habitat destruction, and human activities. Through clue investigations and role-based reasoning, students integrated charts, maps, photographs, and texts to analyze information and understand conservation issues. Digital mind mapping instruction was incorporated to help students organize information, construct arguments, connect evidence, and express reasoning. Data were collected through pretests, posttests, open-ended responses, digital mind map works, questionnaires, and feedback forms. The results showed that students developed broader perspectives on leopard cat conservation and greater awareness of the conflicts between human development and ecological conservation. Their multiple representation literacy improved from basic interpretation to integration and inference across different representations. Students also demonstrated progress in organizing ideas and connecting viewpoints through digital mind maps, while most students expressed positive attitudes toward the course. Overall, the findings suggest that integrating issue-based board games and digital mind mapping instruction can enhance students’ understanding of authentic issues, promote conservation awareness, and strengthen their multiple representation and argumentative expression abilities in elementary education.
